OUR STORY:        The gallery originated in the fall of 2003 in a very small space( approximately 200 sq. ft) 2 blocks off Main Street in Blue Ridge, Georgia. The gallery opened with the works of just 4 artists; Sherry Darling (me) with baskets and photography, Gary Gardner – Woodturner, Lissi Oland – Woodturner, and Keith Rueckert – Woodturner. Within 1 to 2 months I found the need for several new artists. By the summer of 2004 I had made arrangements for my dream gallery located on Main Street, but the building was over 70 years old and had to be completely renovated. In the meantime I was fortunate enough to lease a space on Main Street in September of 2004. This space was twice as large as the original gallery (600 sq. ft) and gave me the opportunity to reach a much larger audience. Here we featured approximately 26 regional artists. However, during the 8 months in this location I tried out a “visiting artist” theme with a famous artist from Joliet Illinois. I found that many of our clients were glad to be offered the opportunity to add to their collections with the works of national artists as well. This has led me to seek out great artists from around our nation! April 15^th, 2005 we had our “Private Premier Grand Opening” at our new location. This gallery is large and spacious (1,650 sq. ft) with plenty of room to properly display more artworks. We have added many new artists. In addition to woodturnings, baskets and gourd art, we now offer wood sculptures, wood carvings, wood pottery, stone sculptures, pottery, paintings, photography, fiber arts, jewelry and more. The gallery now hosts over 60 artists with a variety of styles to appeal to a wider audience. Blue Ridge, Ga., has been experiencing a wonderful growth period and Main Street shops have become quite up-scale. Blue Ridge is now a “Destination” for serious art buyers. Turning Leaf Wood Art has established a very good following of clientele and its’ reputation has spread far and wide. We have been featured in several video productions that promote the North Georgia mountain area for new home buyers and travelers alike.  We have hosted many Artists Receptions, Saturday Socials, and special Openings. We plan to continue these popular parties even more so in the future. One phrase that captures the essence of the gallery is:” Art without the Attitude”! Sorry, no snooty, stuffy, pretentious air found here and I believe that the atmosphere we have in this gallery is just the refreshing change that makes shopping for art much more enjoyable. Although most of the artists featured here are award winning highly acclaimed artists, many of whom are world renowned; I have also enjoyed bringing in a few emerging artists and watching their popularity grow! My goal is to insure that all who enters here have fun, learn something and enjoy visiting the gallery!
