Robert St. Pierre is definitely one of the most unique artists that I feature here in this gallery. Robert creates incredible wooden sculptures, decorative vessels, and functional containers, in a very unconventional manner. The vessels are not turned on a lathe; only saws, sanders, and a very gifted eye are used. Each vessel represents life in a most precious direction. Robert’s vessels are made using beautiful local woods as well as exotic imported woods. Robert lives in North Carolina, surrounded by mountains and forest, the source of both raw materials and inspiration.  Most of the woods used are from trees that threaten property, are diseased, dead, or storm damaged. Rings of wood are cut and glued together. The inside of the vessel is sanded using drum and flap sanders. The exterior of the vessel is sanded using belt, balloon, and disc sanders. He takes great care and pride, meticulously cutting, sanding and finishing hand selected wood on each wooden vessel. Robert literally works 7 days a week in his studio. Robert has artworks in private, corporate and permanent museum collections in over 20 countries worldwide. Recently Robert was commissioned to create several hundred cremation vessels. This makes his artistic pieces even more unique as he has such huge demands for his time. Turning Leaf Wood Art Gallery owner Sherry Darling struggles to keep a good supply of his art work available in the gallery, but she insists that his works stand alone as they are so very different from anything else in the gallery. “It is with great pride that I offer Robert’s work to the public.
