“Old Dog” is a wildly eccentric artist who lives in the North Georgia High Country. He lives alone ‘cause nobody has ever been able to live with him for long, except his kids of whom there are eight. Incomprehensible to his sons and daughters, “Old Dog” is loved and adored by his “grand pups”. They think Grandpa Dog is “normal”.
“Dog” has been into clay forever, or at least since 1978. In 1980 he made the big leap from being a registered nurse to being a full time artist. This decision caused no regrets from the local hospitals.
In 28 years “The Dog” has made many things out of clay to sell so he could buy Graham Crackers and shoes for his kids. Now that they are grown, “Dog” works only when he wants to or when he gets hungry, which is still every day.
The “Old Dog” makes these sawdust fired animals from white stoneware, bisque fired to 1600 degrees Fahrenheit (don’t try this in your oven). He then packs them in sawdust and smokes them for a day or so to give them their unpredictable finish.
The favorites seem to be cats. “Old Dog” loves cats because cats sell the best. “The Dog” has owned several really great cats (or did they own him?).
So, why does he call himself “Old Dog”? What is his real name? You will find his real name on each of his creations, just look for it.
“Old Dog” is brave and loyal and friendly and honest. He is adventuresome, always into trouble, smelly, and “dog” is devoted to his master, Christ.
